Project Management Using Gantt Chart

How to Use It:

A Gantt chart is a well-liked project management tool that shows what must be done when and how. Gantt charts are great for monitoring project timelines because they make it easier to see how tasks are interdependent, or how one activity depends on another to be finished. Progress, resources, limitations, and other pertinent scheduling data can all be displayed using Gantt charts.

How to Build It:

Using a project scheduling tool that enables you to link tasks and deadlines that are interdependent with one another makes it simple to set up, update, and maintain a Gantt chart. Moving or modifying the timeline or progress on one job will automatically update any interdependent tasks when using an efficient project scheduling tool.

If required, you can perform the following steps to manually build a Gantt chart in a spreadsheet:

  • List all of your crucial project tasks. Make a list of what needs to get done and how long you anticipate it will take for each task.
  • Determine the connections between the jobs. For instance, these two processes are related since you cannot submit material on your website before it has been written. Before the other may start, the first must be finished.
  • In your software or spreadsheet, arrange all of your tasks according to the timeline. Start with your initial task, and finish with the final activity that brings the project to a close. The rest can be accommodated in the middle depending on your relationships, resources, and availability, among other factors.
  • You can now include dates, resources, and progress (if the project is already underway). Additionally, you can enter any additional pertinent data that you want to track.
  • When you use project management software, a chart will be generated for you automatically. You will have to manually generate and format a chart using a spreadsheet.
  • As things develop and change, don't forget to update your chart. It's crucial to examine your chart at least once per week in order to reflect development and other project changes.
