The Plan: What is it?

The structure for how a company shares messages both internally and internationally is its corporate communications plan.   • External Communication: Information exchanged outside of the company

  • Target Audiences: are the stakeholder groups who will be exposed to the messages.
  • Objectives: The majority of communications are sent with a call to action or an intended result in mind.
  • Message Content: refers to what you wish to convey and what you hope to make clear to your audience.
  • Distribution strategy: is a crucial component of the communications plan since it determines the platforms and venues where your communications will be delivered.
  • Frequency: how frequently you plan to update or share material with your intended audience.
  • Evaluation metrics: how to determine whether your communications were successful.

Why Is It Important to Have a Corporate Communications Plan?

A communications strategy can help your company be ready for any unforeseen developments or problems that may arise. Sometimes life throws curveballs at you. Having a plan in place will help enable quicker resolution of any PR problems. For instance, addressing criticism and being transparent about errors can increase brand trust and put you back on the right track in the eyes of customers and potential clients. If there are unexpected changes on a team, you'll be better able to communicate the changes in a way that makes workers feel at ease and cared for if you have a plan for how to share that information, first with those who will be directly impacted by the changes and then with the rest of the company.
